President Biden was quick to get in on the recovery efforts in Florida after his administration took a lot of heat over how they handled the blaze in Maui.
On August 30, 2023, Biden made sure that he addressed the situation, promising aid to the effected regions dealing with hurricane Idelia.
When Biden was in Maui he tried to empathize with residents about a small oven fire that took place in his residence years ago.
Biden couldn’t help himself and not the story has grown to him almost losing his entire home.
“But it’s going to be frustrating as the devil for people. They’re going to say, “Why can’t I go back? The storm is over. Why can’t I go back and look to see if I can find that wedding ring or if I can find that — that album — can’t find that thing that I’ve lost in the house?” It’s really tough — really, really tough,” the president said.
“I didn’t know anything like that, but I — lightning struck my house. We had to be out of that house for about seven months while it was repaired because so much damage was done to the house and half the house almost collapsed. You know, and you wonder what — what’s going to happen,” he added.
BIDEN: “Lightning stuck my house … half the house almost collapsed!”
According to a 2004 AP report, it was “a small fire…contained to the kitchen” that “was under control in 20 minutes.” pic.twitter.com/4RBlQgV9E0

Below is Biden talking about the fire last October, the story has really taken on a life of its own since he’s taken office.
Today, Biden claimed half his home “almost collapsed” in a fire (not true).
Here’s Biden in October claiming they “almost lost a couple firefighters” in a fire that destroyed “everything” (also not true).pic.twitter.com/PRiQO7orQ3
