Terror in Brooklyn: When Mental Illness Meets Weak Public Policy
Another day, another horror story from the progressive paradise of New York City. This time, four young girls became victims of a cleaver-wielding maniac in Brooklyn’s Bensonhurst neighborhood. The Sunday morning attack left four children – ages 8, 11, 13, and 16 – fighting for their lives after their relative, 49-year-old Long Chen, decided to unleash hell on these innocents. Where was mommy dearest during this nightmare? Apparently not home – but we’ll circle back to that burning question later.
The bloody rampage might have ended much worse if not for the extraordinary courage of the 11-year-old victim who, despite suffering serious injuries, managed to hide and call 911. Meanwhile, a young boy in the home who escaped injury ran to alert neighbors. Responding officers arrived to find blood splattered across walls and floors – a scene straight out of a horror movie – and Chen standing by the entrance holding his gore-covered weapon like some demented butcher.

When Police Save Lives – Despite Progressive Criticism
In a stunning display of the police work that anti-cop leftists routinely demonize, NYPD officers forced entry into the home after hearing screams from inside. When they encountered Chen with his bloody cleaver, they issued commands to drop the weapon. Instead of complying, Chen decided the best course of action was to lunge at armed officers. The police response was swift and appropriate – they shot him. And here’s something you won’t hear from the defund-the-police crowd: those officers saved four young lives.
“At this time, all four children, thank God, are expected to survive. But this could have ended very differently. Officers and EMS arrived at the door within minutes of receiving the 911 call. Their fast, decisive action pinpointing the location and taking down the door absolutely saved the lives of these young girls.”
Two knives were recovered at the scene – a large cleaver and another blood-covered knife. Chen, who according to reports has a history of mental illness but no prior domestic violence incidents, was hospitalized in critical condition. I know you’re all broken up about that. The four children are expected to recover physically, though the emotional scars will likely last a lifetime. Where was the supervision? Where were the parents? The mother was reportedly not at home during the attack, raising even more questions about this tragedy.
Here's what we know from @NYPDPC, Jessica Tisch, NYPD Police Commissioner.
Today, around 10:15 am, a call was made to 911, from one of the victims that her uncle had stabbed her sisters.

The Mental Health Crisis America Won’t Address
This horrific incident highlights yet again America’s catastrophic failure to address serious mental illness. Instead of creating effective systems to help people like Chen before they snap, our progressive overlords prefer to let disturbed individuals roam free until tragedy strikes. Then they blame guns – except when the weapon is a cleaver. Then they blame… nothing at all. Just call it a random tragedy and move on to the next disaster.
“The 11-year-old 911 caller, who herself was a victim, hid in a room to call the police and a young, uninjured boy ran in to alert a neighbor.”
Let’s be crystal clear – the heroes in this story are the quick-thinking 11-year-old girl who called 911 despite her own injuries, and the police officers who didn’t hesitate to enter a blood-soaked apartment to confront an armed madman. Without their actions, we’d be reading about four children murdered in Brooklyn instead of four survivors. The motive for Chen’s attack remains under investigation, but the reality of our broken mental health system stands in plain sight for anyone willing to look. Until we get serious about addressing the mentally ill who present clear dangers to others, these nightmares will continue – in New York and across America.
