Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) announced Monday that the January 6 Committee would refer former President Donald Trump for criminal investigation by the Department of Justice for four charges, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction of an official proceeding, and more.
But what many don’t know is that Raskin himself has objected to the past certification of election results—the action at the center of the charges that he, and the rest of the committee, voted unanimously to refer Trump for prosecution.
This is a textbook example of hypocrisy, as Raskin himself has called into question the election results and now seeks to punish others for doing so. It appears that this is little more than a politically motivated witch hunt against a man who was wrongfully impeached in 2020 and then denied his rights due process throughout 2021.
If there was ever any question about what this “investigation” is really about it should now be answered with a resounding: politics!

We must all remember that just because someone disagrees with your political views, it does not make them guilty or worthy of punishment. This goes for both sides of the aisle as we should strive to create an environment where free speech is encouraged and respected instead of punished and mocked.
Even if you disagree with President Trump’s policies on immigration or taxes, it doesn’t give you license to pursue a politically motivated “investigation” against him. We must stand together as citizens who cherish freedom and justice over partisanship and divisiveness.
It’s clear that Rep. Jamie Raskin is no longer interested in protecting our democracy but rather using his position to push through his own agenda at any cost—even if it means trampling on basic human rights like freedom of speech or due process along the way.
It’s time we put an end to this hypocritical behavior once and for all and make sure our leaders are held accountable when they attempt to use their power for personal gain instead of serving the people they were elected to represent.
