Finally, we’re seeing ACTUAL warships deployed to protect America’s borders instead of just empty political promises and virtue signaling from the left.
At a Glance
- The USS Spruance, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, has been deployed to the southern US border to combat illegal immigration and drug smuggling
- This deployment follows the USS Gravely, making it the second destroyer assigned to border security operations
- Both warships will be accompanied by US Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachments specializing in maritime operations
- The destroyers are equipped with significant firepower, including vertical launch systems and advanced electronic warfare capabilities
- The deployment is part of the Trump administration’s broader efforts to restore territorial integrity and sovereignty at the southern border
America Finally Gets Serious About Border Security
While the Biden administration has been busy rolling out the red carpet for illegal immigrants, the Trump administration is finally taking real action to secure our southern border. The USS Spruance, a sophisticated Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, has departed from Naval Base San Diego to patrol the southern border. This isn’t just some symbolic gesture — we’re talking about a warship with serious firepower being deployed to address what has become a full-blown national security crisis. It’s almost like someone in Washington finally remembered that protecting our nation’s borders is actually part of the government’s job description.
The deployment of the USS Spruance comes as part of a broader Department of Defense response to a Presidential Executive Order focused on border control. It marks the second destroyer assigned to this critical mission, following the recent deployment of the USS Gravely. Both vessels bring significant military capabilities to bear against the cartels and smugglers who have been operating with near impunity along our maritime borders. Gen. Gregory Guillot, the US Northern Command commander, emphasized the strategic importance of these deployments in expanding military capabilities in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security.

From Fighting Terrorists to Fighting Smugglers
It’s worth noting that both the USS Spruance and USS Gravely were recently engaged in combat operations in the Red Sea, where they countered missile and drone attacks from Houthi rebels. Now they’re being redeployed to fight a different but equally dangerous threat to American security. These destroyers come equipped with vertical launch systems, guns, and electronic warfare capabilities that will provide a formidable deterrent to cartel operations. Both warships will also be accompanied by US Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachments that specialize in maritime interdiction operations — a clear signal that the administration is serious about enforcement.
“This is an important step in the whole-of-government efforts to seal the southern border and maintain U.S. sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Guillot said in a press release from the Pentagon at the time.
You have to wonder why it took so long for a solution this obvious to be implemented. While Democrats have spent years telling us that walls are racist and border enforcement is cruel, drug cartels have been flooding our communities with deadly fentanyl and human traffickers have been exploiting our porous borders. The deployment of these naval assets represents a dramatic shift in approach — one that prioritizes American security over political correctness. It’s refreshing to see military assets being used to actually protect Americans rather than being deployed overseas in endless foreign entanglements.
A Multi-Faceted Approach to Border Security
The USS Spruance’s mission goes beyond simply intercepting illegal immigrants. According to official statements, the destroyer will be targeting maritime-related terrorism, weapons proliferation, transnational crime, piracy, environmental destruction, and illegal seaborne immigration. Air Force Lt. Gen Alexus Grynkewich highlighted that these vessels will be “involved in the interdiction mission for any of the drugs and whatnot that are heading in.” This comprehensive approach addresses the interconnected threats that have exploited weaknesses in our border security infrastructure for far too long.
“USS Spruance’s deployment as part of US Northern Command’s southern border mission brings additional capability and expands the geography of unique military capabilities working with the Department of Homeland Security,” said Gen. Gregory Guillot, USNORTHCOM commander, in a statement.
The left will undoubtedly cry foul, claiming that this is an excessive use of military power or some violation of norms. But after years of watching border patrol agents overwhelmed, communities overrun, and American citizens victimized by those who shouldn’t be here in the first place, it’s about time we deployed assets that match the severity of the threat. US Northern Command’s stated goal to “restore territorial integrity” is precisely what Americans have been demanding. Our sovereignty isn’t negotiable, and neither should be our commitment to securing our borders with every tool at our disposal.
