Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance has had some fun at the expense of MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle, after an off-the-cuff remark he made about his sons’ eating habits sparked an unexpected wave of analysis.
During a visit to a supermarket in Reading, Pennsylvania on September 21, Vance brought along his two young sons, Ewan and Vivek, to highlight the rising cost of groceries under the Biden-Harris administration. While addressing the press, Vance’s sons interrupted him to grab a carton of eggs. Vance, seeing an opportunity to tie the moment to his point, joked about how much his children enjoy eggs, stating, “These guys actually eat about 14 eggs every single morning.”
It was a joke, and Vance was having some fun
The light-hearted comment was seemingly a throwaway line, meant to highlight his family’s typical breakfast routine and engage his audience.
But by Sunday, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, and others had zeroed feeling the need to fact check and attack Vance.
“14 eggs per day. 98 eggs per week. 2 children consuming 8+ dozen eggs per week,” Ruhle tweeted.
So it started with some wacko liberal Karen on twitter not understanding comedy because they no longer have the ability to comprehend it.
J.D. Vance said his two young sons “eat about 14 eggs every single morning.” Does this guy even know his own children, or is he just making up more stories to keep it in the media as he admits he does? What a 🤡 pic.twitter.com/PB0MMhhgkf

That was when Ruhle decided to do her little fact check:
14 eggs per day.
98 eggs per week.
2 children consuming 8+ dozen eggs per week. https://t.co/Jh7tp1Z0Ct— Stephanie Ruhle (@SRuhle) September 29, 2024
Vance wasted no time responding. By Monday, he fired back, ridiculing Ruhle’s overanalysis. With a dose of humor, Vance tweeted, “One time I said I was so tired I could sleep for days. Stephanie Ruhle: Vance, in fact, only slept for 8 hours.” The sarcastic reply captured the essence of what many saw as an unnecessary deep dive into a casual remark.

The back-and-forth didn’t end there, as others on social media quickly jumped in to mock the situation. Political commentator Scott Jennings chimed in with his own exaggerated analogy: “Vance: ‘I’m so hungry I could eat a horse!’ Ruhle: ‘TONIGHT, we talk to PETA to get to the bottom of this Republican-led equine eating catastrophe.’”
