Crisis At Migrant Shelter Forces CDC Response, Docs Conduct ‘Massive’ Effort

There’s a not-so-wonderful situation unfolding in Chicago, and it doesn’t just touch issues of immigration. It highlights more incompetence.

Chicago’s migrant shelters have found themselves at the center of attention due to a concerning outbreak of measles. The latest reports confirm two additional cases of measles inside a shelter, which means we’re now looking at a total of four cases since early March. The initial cases involved children, and the new ones have been found in adults. This situation is sp serious that the CDC is responding.

The shelter in question, located in the city’s Pilsen neighborhood, is home to over 1,800 migrants. Among them are 95 children who are 2 years old or younger. That’s a lot of people.

In response to the rising concern, a team from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is on its way to Chicago. Their goal? To stop this outbreak from spreading any further.

Local health officials are taking action. Nearly all of the residents were assessed by medical professionals. In what Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Olusimbo ‘Simbo’ Ige described as a “massive effort,” over 900 residents were successfully vaccinated.

The CDC team, which arrived on March 12, has provided clinical guidance and help determine the immunity status of those potentially exposed.

The urgency of this situation caught the eye of local and state officials. Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez, representing the 25th Ward where the shelter is located, reached out to Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker for immediate assistance. His main concern? The health of the children and the need for swift vaccinations to prevent further cases.

As the border crisis continues the Biden administration has announced that he will not use executive orders to ease the crisis.

Biden is abdicating his responsibility and demanding that Congress do it instead.

“I’m counting on the border action happening by itself, them passing it,” he told reporters on Air Force One after visiting New Hampshire.

When the White House floated a possible executive order Rep. Alexandra Ocasio Cortez chided the President.

Looks like that was enough to make Biden run to basement.
